Quick Search

Quick Search is a command palette that lets you find and jump to any Switchboard module from anywhere in your WordPress admin. No more clicking through menus.

Press ⌘ K (Mac) or Ctrl + K (Windows/Linux) from any admin page.

A search modal appears, ready for you to type.

How It Works

  1. Press the shortcut — the Quick Search modal opens
  2. Type a module name — results filter as you type
  3. Navigate results — use ↑ ↓ arrow keys
  4. Select a module — press Enter

That’s it. You’re taken directly to the module.

What You Can Do

Jump to Module Settings

If a module is enabled and has configurable settings, pressing Enter opens its settings panel directly. No need to scroll through the Switchboard dashboard first.

Example: Type “reading time”, press Enter → the Reading Time settings panel opens.

Enable Inactive Modules

If a module is disabled, selecting it takes you to the Switchboard dashboard with that module highlighted. Toggle it on from there.

Quick Module Status

Each search result shows:

  • Module name and icon
  • Status badge — ACTIVE (green) or DISABLED (red)
  • Category — Content, Security, Admin, etc.

Where It Works

Quick Search is available on every WordPress admin page — not just Switchboard.

Working in the post editor? Press ⌘ K and jump to a module. On the plugins page? Same shortcut works. It’s always one keystroke away.

Note: When you’re already on the Switchboard dashboard, ⌘ K focuses the native search bar instead (since all modules are already visible).

You can also link directly to a module’s settings panel using URL parameters:

/wp-admin/admin.php?page=switchboard&open_settings=reading-time

Replace reading-time with any module’s slug. Useful for:

  • Bookmarking frequently-used module settings
  • Sharing links with team members
  • Creating quick-access shortcuts

Tips

Learn the module names. The more you use Quick Search, the faster you’ll get. Typing “toc” finds Table of Contents. “404” finds the 404 redirect module.

Partial matches work. You don’t need the full name. “read” matches Reading Time. “login” matches Login Logo, Login as User, etc.

Use it for discovery. Not sure what module does something? Search for keywords like “image”, “security”, or “menu” to see related modules.

Quick Search turns Switchboard into a keyboard-first experience. Once you start using it, clicking through menus feels slow.
