Updating
Keeping Switchboard Pro updated is straightforward. With a valid license, updates work just like any other WordPress plugin.
Automatic Update Checks
WordPress checks for plugin updates twice daily. When a new version of Switchboard Pro is available, you’ll see:
- A notification badge on Plugins in your sidebar
- An update available message on the Plugins page
- The option to update in Dashboard → Updates
Updating the Plugin
One-Click Update
- Go to Plugins in your WordPress admin
- Find Switchboard Pro in the list
- Click Update Now
WordPress downloads the new version, replaces the old files, and keeps all your settings intact.
Via Dashboard → Updates
- Go to Dashboard → Updates
- Find Switchboard Pro in the plugins section
- Check the box and click Update Plugins
This is useful if you’re updating multiple plugins at once.
WP-CLI
Prefer the command line?
wp plugin update wpswitchboard-proOr update everything at once:
wp plugin update --allWhat Happens During Updates
Your settings stay. Module configurations, enabled/disabled states, everything is preserved. Updates only replace the plugin code, not your database entries.
Modules keep running. Active modules continue working after the update. You don’t need to re-enable anything.
Cache clears automatically. Switchboard clears its internal module cache when the version changes, so new modules appear immediately.
Manual Updates
If automatic updates aren’t working (firewall, license issue, etc.), you can update manually:
- Download the latest version from your account at wpswitchboard.com/account
- Deactivate (not delete) Switchboard Pro in WordPress
- Delete the old plugin via FTP or file manager (the
wpswitchboard-profolder) - Upload and install the new ZIP file
- Activate
Your settings are stored in the database, so they’ll still be there.
Update Requirements
Updates require an active license. If your license has expired:
- You can still use the current version
- Update checks won’t find new versions
- You’ll need to renew to access updates
Renewals are available at a discount in your account dashboard.
Release Notes
Want to know what’s new before updating?
Click View version X.X details next to the update notice. You’ll see:
- New features
- Bug fixes
- Any breaking changes
- Required WordPress/PHP versions
We also post release notes at wpswitchboard.com/changelog.
Rollback
Updated and something broke? Here’s how to go back:
- Download the previous version from your account (we keep recent versions available)
- Follow the manual update steps above with the older ZIP
Better yet, always test updates on a staging site first if you’re risk-averse.
